Description

The new 7220 brake calipers offer a new patented design that will surely offer the demanding cyclist one of the best brake calipers on the market with incredibly low weight.

New Cam-Pivot design increases as the travel rate diminishes, providing braking without compromising caliper arm travel. Thus providing excellent brake modulation throughout the braking process, something standard calipers cannot provide. Compatible with all current road brake lever systems and cables.

  • Unique Patented Dual Pivot POWER CAM Mechanism - Offers excellent stopping power and brake modulation.
  • Ball Bearing Pivot design All Titanium and Aluminum alloy hardware.
  • Beautifully CNC machined from 7075 Aluminum alloy.
  • Computer optimized design to obtain the lowest weight without sacrificing braking power.
  • Brake-pad height adjustment ratio: 35-50 mm (measured from brake fixing-bolt to brake-shoe-nut)
  • CNC machined alloy brake pad holders - Standard wheel pads included Black anodized finish with Red Power Cam.
  • Laser engraved logo - no paint or stickers to get damaged.
  • Extra Brake nut - 25mm for carbon forks.

Tips on fitting the calipers:
Mount the brake as centrally as possible using the main frame securing allen bolt.
The small allen key screw located in the central barrel which secures down on to the central pivot bolt is to assist in centring the caliper arms once the main securing bolt has been tightened.
There's also a small allen key grub screw on one of the caliper arms which tightens on to the main spring. Once the caliper has been centred using the main mounting bolt, the small allen grub screw can be used to 'fine-tune' the adjustment. By tightening it up, the tension on the spring will be increased and that caliper arm will move away from the rim. Loosen it off and the tension is released and the caliper arm will move towards the rim. It's very clever and kept some of us amused for hours.

GENUINELY recommended. January 18, 2014

Wow, I am very impressed. Mine came in at 199g for them all complete, all hardware, stock pads, with the long bolt on the back of the front brake for my deep carbon fork. Better than advertised.

Slightly tricky to set up, but not as bad as I thought. I had read some reviews saying they were bad to setup. Probably took me 20 minutes and I'm no professional mechanic..

ALSO, these work great with wide rims. I have them set up on my 404 Firecrest clinchers without a hitch. Plenty of room to go much wider, in fact. I couldn't find many reviews saying this clearly, so let me make that known.

For performance, if I was blindfolded I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between these and my Ultegra 6700 brakes. Except for saving 130g+ from the bike.

Fantastic looking. 100% Recommended. This site has superb customer service, thanks Brandon!!!

Wow June 16, 2013

I was looking for a light brake set that wouldn't break the bank. What I was looking for was Campy stopping power with less weight, at half the cost.  I knew that Sram was out of consideration due to flex and lack of stopping power,  so I scoured eBay for something that would fill the bill...no luck.

Then I remembered Planet X.  To make a long story short, all things considered, these are the best brakes I have ever used.  Wicked light and with stopping power approaching Campy for less than half the Campy price.  The clever design effectively makes these brakes dual-pivot at single-pivot weight.  Beautiful machining and titanium parts just make these a great value and a joy to use.

Great looking brakes on par with new 105's December 31, 2012
Reviewer: Andrew Phillips from Edmonds, WA United States
I replaced my 105's for these and the work great I still have a little tweaking to get the centered but they are very nice. I do wish the mounting nut was metal and not plastic but I did use the old ones from my 105's. I went with the shiny silver and they go great with the shiny ksyrium Elites I am rolling. I had some kool stop salmon pads in new condition so I will save the swiss stop pads for spring and summer. I like the feel and set up was not that difficult. Great product Planet X
